Articling at BOYNECLARKE offers hands-on experience, valuable mentorship, and exposure to a wide range of legal work. Our Dartmouth office, located on the Halifax Harbour, provides access to the full scope of a large firm, all within a supportive, people-focused environment.
We see your articling year as a crucial part of your growth. Our goal is clear: to help you build confidence, develop practical skills, and start your career prepared to succeed.
As a full-service firm, we offer rotations across multiple practice groups so you can explore different areas of law and understand where you want to focus. Instead of long blocks in one area, you’ll work with several teams and lawyers throughout the year.
This includes unique opportunities, such as spending time with the Provincial or Federal Crown during your Criminal Law rotation, to broaden your perspective and experience.
We’re serious about the work we do, but we also believe in a friendly, collaborative workplace. Clerks are encouraged to take part in social events, community initiatives, and firm activities that help you feel connected and supported.
We typically hire four articled clerks each year through second-year student recruitment, which takes place January to February of a student’s second year of law school. Successful candidates receive both a summer position for that year and an articling position starting the June following graduation from law school. Unique to BOYNECLARKE, is our Summer Student Program.
We participate in Dalhousie Schulich School of Law’s annual virtual interviews and welcome applications from students at UNB and law schools across Canada and abroad.
Articled clerks receive a competitive package, including:
Our Summer Student Program is unique in the region. Students are paid by BOYNECLARKE but work directly with local non-profit organizations that align with the goals of the program.
Partner organizations submit proposals and students choose from approved placements – or have the option to propose their own organization that they may have personal connections to.
The program has run for many years with great success, helping students gain early experience, community involvement, and meaningful connections that support your long-term development. It has also received notable recognition, including a Lexpert Zenith Gold Award and an Atlantic Business Magazine CSR Award.
We welcome applicants to the Indigenous Blacks & Mi’kmaq Initiative 1L Summer Program. Students gain experience across practice areas and support teams, contribute to meaningful projects, and join a workplace committed to community and inclusion.
